Sulitizen: The Epitome of Frugality

I’m a Sulitizen myself but I’m not that active in the forum. I’ve been seeing a lot of bloggers who are also part of this community and I feel happy about those who actively participate in the different events and contests. For now, Michelle got my support.

Hewlett Packard (HP) Customer Service

Have you ever wondered where I’ve been during those times that my blogs weren’t updated? Oh believe me, it sucks to live without a laptop. Exaggeration intended. What I mean is, it is real pain in the a$$ if you can’t go online and you have a lot of things to do in the world wide web.

Yeah, Chandler (my HP Compaq laptop) has been away from me for weeks because HP technicians were fixing it at the HP Service Center.

Missing Chandler...

Let me share you my HPerience…

SWORD Extends its Influence

You don’t have to be a “person of influence” to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they’ve taught me. – Scott Adams

If people will ask me, “How long is your life?” I will definitely shrug and tell them, “I don’t know.” But if you are to ask me, “How far is your influence?”, I can definitely answer, “Great and afar!”.

Some may disagree, but I will insist. I am not conceited, just logical and coherent. I am not the best blogger out there but I am one of those who influenced. You might ask, HOW.

This blog was establish last December of last year with an intention of sharing insights and different reviews. As much as I don’t want to include personal stuff here, I can’t help it but post some from time to time. And I realized that it makes things effective. If you really want to influence other, a touch of personality can yield good result. Attach emotions. Invoke opinions. Highlight conversations. And yes, you can start a commotion just make sure that you can end it in a nice way.

Who are the people influenced by SWORD?
Family – This blog inspired me to continue be the best sister to my siblings and a good daughter to my parents. If a mother, or father, or any family member is to read this blog, for sure they can find ideals that will strengthen the “family ties” that has been there ever since we were born into a Filipino family.

Friends – I consider this blog more powerful than my Facebook wall. Updates here are more consistent compared to FB and my real friends appreciate me for talking a lot so I am channeling the unspoken words into writings. As a matter of fact, I was able to convince a friend of mine to start blogging because of this.

AcquaintancesRandom bloggers may come and go to this sweet home of mine. With their reinforcing comments and notable remarks, I know that somehow, they were able to find something precious around.

I have been passionate in blogging about ongoing campaigns too and I think that is the best thing about SWORD, spreading the word and letting the world know about the most important happening, sharing what I have and lending a helping hand. Most of all, encouraging everyone that TOGETHER, we can make a difference.

SWORD has received positive reviews from different bloggers in the blogosphere. Whether they are forced or not, I still appreciate the linky love. The latest one is from Yuuki:

My pen is this SWORD!

Thanks sis! Thanks to Arwin of Winziph as well for considering this blog influential and nominating me as one of the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2010.

No one needs to please me to make me happy. As long as I am appreciated, I can go on with my life. Even if not, I won’t bug you for that.

People always say that the PEN is mightier than the SWORD. Let me tell you then: My mightiest PEN is this SWORD!

I will greatly appreciate those who will answer this question: Am I able to influence you? How?

CLEAR WiFi: The New 4G

With the release of Sprint’s 4G wireless network around North America, the race for 4G speeds has commenced, and the mobile data war has begun. Verizon and AT&T have both announced plans for larger and faster 4G networks over the next five to ten years, and even T-Mobile, which has de-prioritized data offers, has laid out its plans. However, the major cell phone carriers are not the only ones that you need to watch. A company called CLEAR is already in the 4G market–but does this company have the competitive edge needed to survive in this brutal market?

CLEAR has established 4G coverage in nearly as many areas as Sprint, meaning that in major cities across the country, you will be able to access its lightning fast speeds. This includes Houston and Austin, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, Las Vegas, Nevada, and even some regions in Hawaii. But how fast is this 4G?

CLEAR 4G is comparable to Sprint’s 4G network, which means that it goes about four times the average speed of 3G (or about six to eight mbps, with a top download speed of about a megabyte per second). This is comparable to typical DSL, but it pales in comparison to the long term plans of the other major wireless networks. CLEAR has not stated a plan for upgrading its 4G speed in that time, but it’s easy to speculate that CLEAR will continue to improve its speed as the competition heats up.

The biggest advantage of CLEAR is that it’s offering packages at a significantly lower price than the other wireless networks. While Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon offer special deals at about $60 (US) per month, CLEAR has plans available at $30 (US) per month. The plans with the most competitive specs from CLEAR are available at about $40 (US) per month, meaning CLEAR’s price is currently its strongest weapon.

The (Surprisingly Long) History of ADT Security

There are many home security systems on the market today, and it’s no wonder, with crime rates being as high as they are. Most people think of companies like ADT when they think about using the highest forms of technology to protect their home or business. So, it may be surprising that ADT started in 1874.

ADT didn’t start out as a security company. In fact, ADT stands for American District Telegraph, and was a grouping of 57 different telegraph delivery groups. Unfortunately for the telegraph companies, the telephone became quite popular and really reduced how many telegraph deliveries there were. ADT tried to branch out into other businesses to supplement its waning telegraph business.

After a couple of decades of struggling financially, ADT sold its telegraph business to Western Union and the remaining portion of its business to AT&T. ADT then used its resources to create fire alarms and eventually, burglar alarms. Starting around 1910, burglar alarms became a major portion of ADT’s business. ADT continued along this vein until the 1960s, when it became a publicly traded company.

ADT faced a pretty major hurdle in 1964, when it was legally found to be a monopoly since it provided four out of five home security systems in existence at that time. The company had forced many competitors out of business by undercutting prices, and as a result, was forced to adopt a national price list.

After this major issue, and a series of investments from outside companies and groups (including a purchase from the United Kingdom’s Lord Ashcroft), ADT continued to grow. By 1995, ADT had more than one million customers, and was gaining the attention of other major companies. In 1997, Tyco purchased ADT from Lord Ashcroft, but did so using a “reverse takeover,” meaning that the company was allowed to keep Lord Ashcroft’s tax status in Bermuda.
