Google Doodle Pays Tribute to Juan Gris (March 23, 1887 – May 11, 1927)

Juan Gris Cubism Google Doodle

I know this is some kind of artwork but I just can’t figure it out. Probably it say’s GOOGLE just like the usual Google Doodle.

Upon checking the search results (after clicking that image) I’ve learned that it is some sort of “cubism”. An innovative artistic genre which made Juan Gris popular.

José Victoriano (Carmelo Carlos) González-Pérez a.k.a. Juan Gris was born on March 23, 1887 in Madrid. He spent most of his life painting and sculpting in France. He’s a Spanish designer and theorist and had several art exhibitions in Paris and Berlin.

Thanks Google for letting me appreciate his art!

I got addicted to Tetris just recently so I see to it to login and play everyday to get my daily bonus. And now that it’s St. Patrick’s Day, I really enjoyed playing because of the green animation! I love green so it really boosts my winning spirity. Lol. Here are some of the screenshots I’ve got… cropped!

International Women’s Day 2012

Just as I thought, the letter G in Google Doodle today symbolizes women and this is to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.
International Women's Day 2012
United Nations aims to recognize the critical role and contribution of rural women hence the theme, “Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty”.

“Invest in rural women. Eliminate discrimination against them in law and in practice. Ensure that policies respond to their needs. Give them equal access to resources. Provide rural women with a role in decision-making.”

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

International Women’s Day (IWD) used to be called International Working Women’s Day which is celebrated every 8th of March. The focus of this celebration is respect for women, appreciation and love towards them, recognizing ther political and economic values and achievement, and more.

I haven’t heard of any grand celebration in the Philippines. The latest news that I’ve heard about idealistic women is that of Gabriela’s rally in front of US Embassy. They are protesting the direct military intervention of the US in Bicol. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out good since it resulted to shoving and clash against cops. It can’t be helped though with their kind of approach.

Google Doodle Highlights Leap Year with Gioachino Rossini

Happy Leap Year everyone!

I bet you’ve already seen this on Google’s search page:

Google Doodle Leap Year - Gioachino Rossini

This is to commemorate Gioachino Rossini on his 220th birthday which falls on a leap year.

According to Wikipedia.com, Gioachino Antonio Rossini (29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868) was an Italian composer who wrote 39 operas as well as sacred music, chamber music, songs, and some instrumental and piano pieces. So that explains why one of the frogs seems to be on a high note while the rest adds up to the musical theme.

Rossini is also known as “The Italian Mozart” for his song-like melodies. He has a huge list of his composition and operas.

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz in Google Search Page

Heinrich Hertz in Google Doodle
Have you seen the Google Doodle for today? Yeah, pretty wavy and colorful! This is to commemorate Heinrich Rudolf Hertz‘ 155th birthday.

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz (February 22, 1857 – January 1, 1894) was a German physicist who clarified and expanded the electromagnetic theory of light that had been put forth by Maxwell. He was the first to satisfactorily demonstrate the existence of electromagnetic waves by building an apparatus to produce and detect radio waves.

- Wikipedia

Hertz is one of the most famous scientists I know in my high school life. Lol. I remember those Science and elective classes that involved invention and other studies. I love that subject!

Hertz developed the Hertz antenna receiver in 1886. He also developed the transmitting type of dipole antenna. Both of these are the simplest and practical antennas during that time. He continued his electromagnetic research in 1887 and experimented with radio waves. His discoveries gave rise to the wireless age that we are all enjoying today. Overall, Hertz’ experiments explain reflection, refraction, polarization, interference, and velocity of electric waves.

From then on Hz or hertz became the SI unit of frequency (cycles per second).
