Quench Your Thirst!

Do you remember the Lee Da Hae and Filipino accent controversy?

Excuse me. I’m a little bit thirsty, can I have a glass of water, please?

Sounds familiar? Of course it was aired on one of the Korean TV shows. The YouTube video is no longer available but you can check her public apology via Twitter here – Korean Actress Lee Da Hae and The English Accent

So much for that “misunderstanding”.

Just think about it, if you are thirsty, then grab a drink! Water is the universal thirst-quencher yet some people prefer juice, iced tea and other flavored-drinks. Maybe it’s the taste.

Drinking plenty of water is good for your health. Even when I was a kid, I was taught to drink 8 glasses of water a day. The concept I was not able to practice. Well, I tried… but frequent trips to the rest room is just plain annoying. I take in water and it goes out right away. At least I know that it cleanses the colon and other internal organs. And to sustain the amount of liquid needed by the body, healthy beverage is also an option.

Gym-goers and sporty guys and gals are the ones who get thirsty easily. Because exercising makes them sweat and tired, they need to replace the water that’s excreted when they perspire. They are consistently in motion so personalized sports bottles will do good for them since it makes the supply of clean water more accessible. They can even fill it up with their favorite drinks. And they can quench their thirst anytime!

Sports Bottle

A must for all runners!

Lack of Sleep Side Effects

I was sick yesterday and 11 hours of sleep made me feel better. I know it’s not just the medicine but also a good amount of rest. This made me realized that my lack of sleep for the past few days contributes a lot to my physical and emotional stress.

I lack sleep not because I can’t sleep but because I don’t have plenty of time to sleep. Been busy with my full-time job, part-time online jobs, and extra curricular activities. Natural sleep aid is not what I need, a well-balanced schedule instead. Improper time management can result to lack of sleep which in turn leads to stress.

Natural Sleep Aid

Be close to nature and get a sound sleep!

The most common side effects of lack of sleep are headache, depression and lethargy. Lack of sleep also causes muscle pains, memory loss and other health risks. A person who does not get enough sleep also tends to be easily irritated and distracted.

Acute level of sleep deprivation resembles the same side effects as attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome and psychosis. It’s really scary. What more with the worse manifestations of lack of sleep such as obesity and impairment of abilities. The growth hormones are highly affected by lack of sleep resulting to weaker immune system, anxiety and lack of self-control.

Insomnia and other sleeping disorders can be treated medically. In my case, all I need is self-discipline and time management.

The Success of Trend Homebuilding Project

Gawad Kalinga Volunteers

Happy Trenders are also home-builders!

Thanks to everyone who joined this batch. Special thanks goes to Ica and my TL who had given me the chance to be part of this homebuilding project. I just had another best week of my life with this pack of happy Trenders and lovely children.

Because I just got back to work and there are other important things to attend to right now, I’m parking all of my thoughts and GK experiences aside. I’m glad that my headache and back pain did not cripple me from building homes but fueled me to work harder instead. With the inspiring children around me and kind-hearted volunteers to help me, I really felt I have all the powers in the world which made me a super hero! Well, we’ve been GK heroes during this homebuilding trip!

I’m a Gawad Kalinga advocate and I’m proud of it!

Gawad Kalinga (GK) translated in English means to “to give care”. GK’s vision for the Philippines is a slum-free, squatter-free nation through a simple strategy of providing land for the landless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino.

Benefits of Green Tea

Ancient people specially Chinese believe that green tea is miraculous drink of all times. Its medicinal benefits have been very evident long time ago as shown in the effective treatment of headaches and depression.

Green tea is said to be a natural secret to attain a healthier life. Because of the colon cleansing agents present in green tea extracts, those who consistently drink green tea experience deep cleaning of digestive tract therefore purifying the vital organs. Green tea is also a very good antioxidant since it is rich in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). The detoxifying properties allow our bodies to cope with the free radicals.

The compound in green tea can prevent the growth of cancer cells. It can also reduce the risk of esophageal cancer and cardiovascular diseases, lower total cholesterol level and improve the ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol. Aside from preventing cancer, drinking green tea helps improve the immune system.

Green tea extract has slimming properties as well because they can burn more calories than caffeine and placebo. Since there are people complaining about the taste of green tea, several food and beverage companies are now incorporating them into their products. Green tea extracts can be commonly found in candies, juices and ice creams nowadays.

Green Tea Ice Cream: Healthy and Yummy Treat!

The 90/10 Principle by Stephen Covey

10% of life is made up of what happens to you.
90% of life is decided by how you react…

What does this mean?

We really have NO control over 10% of what happens to us.

Road Traffic
Just let it be…

We cannot stop the car from breaking down.
The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off.
A driver may cut us off in the traffic.

We have NO control over this 10%.

The other 90% is different.
You determine the other 90%.

How?
By your reaction.

You cannot control a red light.
However, you can control your reaction.

Do not let people fool you.
YOU can control how you react.

Let us use an example…

Cup of Coffee
You can’t undo what has been done…

You are having breakfast with your family.
Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt.

You have no control over what has just happened.

What happens next will be determined by how you react.

You curse.
You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.
She breaks down in tears.

After scolding her, you turn to your wife and you criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table.
A short verbal battle follows.

You storm upstairs and change your shirt.
Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish her breakfast and getting ready to go to school.
She misses the bus.

The Value of Time
Time is gold, but there are also other important things in the world…

Your spouse must leave immediately for work.
You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school.

Because you are late, you drive 40 miles per hour in a 30 mph speed limit zone.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60.00 traffic fine away, you arrive at school.
Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye.

After arriving at the office 20 minute late, you realize you forgot your briefcase.

Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse.
You look forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find a small wedge in your relationship with your wife and daughter.

Husband and Wife Argument
Your relationships matter most…

Why?
Because of how you reacted in the morning.

Why did you have a bad day?

A. Did the coffee cause it?
B. Did your daughter cause it?
C. Did the policeman cause it?
D. Did you cause it?

The answer is “D”

You had no control over what happened with the coffee.

How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.

Balance Beam
Balance things out…

Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you.
Your daughter is about to cry.

You gently say:
“It’s okay, honey, you just need to be more careful next time.”

Grabbing a towel you go upstairs and change your shirt. You grab your briefcase, and you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus.
She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early a cheerfully greet the staff.
Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios.
Both started the same.
Both ended different.
Why?
Because of how you reacted.

You really have no control over 10% of what happens in your life.

The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 Principle.

Road Heavy Traffic
Think before you react…

If someone says something negative about you, do not be a sponge.
Let the attack roll off like water on glass.
You do not have to let the negative comments affect you.

React properly and it will not ruin your day.
A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, or getting stressed out.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in the traffic?

Do you lose your temper?
Pound on the steering wheel? (a friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off),
Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket?
Who cares if you arrive 10 seconds later at work?
Why let the cars ruin your drive?

Remember the 90/10 Principle and don’t worry about it.

You are told you lost your job.
Why lose sleep and get irritated?
It will work out.

Use your worrying energy and time to find a new job.

Airplane
Just focus on the things you can control…

The plane is late. It is going to mangle your schedule for the day.

Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant?
She has no control over what is going on.

Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger, why stress out?
It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90/10 Principle.
Apply it and you will be amazed at the results.
You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90/10 Principle is incredible.
Very few know and apply this Principle.

The result?

You will see it by yourself!

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and headaches.

We all must understand and apply the 90/10 Principle.
It can change your life!

…Enjoy it…

It only takes willpower to give ourselves permission to make the experience.

Absolutely everything we do, give, say, or even think, it’s like a Boomerang. It will come back to us…

Boomerang
Every little act of kindness will be returned a hundred fold…

If we want to receive, we need to learn to give first…
Maybe we will end with our hands empty, but our heart will be filled with love…

And those who love life, have that feeling marked in their hearts …
