A Naked Domain?

I don’t want to have an introductory post anymore because I am not new to the blogosphere, I have two other blogs namely Pinkville and Bloguardian Hellsite: Overcashed. I actually have 2 more, one at wordpress and a secret one at blogger. Ooops, another one at Friendster.

So many blogs, so little time…

The first two I’ve mentioned have PR1 and PR2 respectively as of this writing. Now, what makes me start at square one today? I just took advantage of GoDaddy’s SALE and I learned it from Yuuki! I would like to say goodbye to the long URL of my monetized blog but it will also mean losing everything I have worked hard for. So as not to compromise my page rank, alexa rank and blog listing, I bought two domains – lizspeaks.info and wordyliz.com and intend to use them on new blogs. But then again, I was so excited and I wanted to explore how a new domain works, rather, how to change the old one into something new and shorter. Pinkville used to be lizspeaks2.blogspot.com, now its the new lizspeaks.info! Since it is still a PR1 and a personal blog (which is actually under construction) I think it won’t hurt experimenting it.

It was Sam who assisted Yuuki in setting up her own domain and I’m lucky I get hold of their conversation which turns out to be a tutorial. I figured my way out by referring to Yuuki’s PM and few google search from time to time.

What’s with the title? It’s the first error message I’ve got while I’m trying to save my custom domain: Blogs may not be hosted at naked domains. Oh, okay, I missed the www!

Because I don’t want to encounter the same issue again, I took screenshots of each step I have undertaken: (for blogger platform only)

1. Login to GoDaddy to manage your domain. Make sure to select “I want to PARK my domains” upon sign-in.

2. Click your domain to go to the dashboard. Click Nameservers. Click “Manage” below Total DNS/MX. Under CNAME (Aliases), check www and click modify icon. Change “@” to ghs.google.com. Leave other settings as it is. Click OK and wait few minutes for the changes to take effect.

3. Login to your blogger account. On your dashboard, click SETTINGS on the blog you would like to modify then go to the PUBLISHING TAB. Click on “Custom Domain”.

Step 1 Changing your .blogspot URL to a custom domain

4. Click “Switch to Advance Settings:

Step 2 Changing your .blogspot URL to a custom domain

5. Enter your new domain! Save settings and you’re all done!

Step 3 Changing your .blogspot URL to a custom domain

For a change, I will mark today’s date so that I can celebrate my first blogversary next year! Please support this new blog! Thanks!
